During the exhibition hosted and organized by the Sala 1 gallery in Rome in December 2002, netizens – cittadini della rete, an international competition of Net Art was launched. Competing artists, both Italian and international who use the Web as a creative medium, participated in the competition which ended in March 2003.

A jury of experts included critics, artists, university professors, and giornalists: Silvia Bordini, Stefania Fabri, Ida Gerosa, Kathleen Goncharov, Gino Roncaglia, Domenico Scudero, Mary Angela Schroth, Chiara Somajni who voted the first prize to YAEL KANAREK (USA).
The top three classified will be invited to partecipate in the second edition of NETIZENS while the winner YAEL KANAREK will be have a one-person show in the spaces of Sala 1 programmed for 2003-2004.
